Paediatric First Aid

This course meets both the statutory framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and Ofsted requirements for supervision of children and the administration of child first aid. It covers emergency treatment and medical conditions that professionals may need to deal with. It meets the Department for Education requirements (1 September 2014) and enables compliance with the requirement that from 1 September 2016 newly qualified early years staff acquiring level 2 or 3 qualifications need a current paediatric first aid qualification.

What you will learn?

This course covers the necessary background and skills to deal with accidents and emergencies involving young children as well as adults.

Course Content

  • Dealing with emergencies
  • Priorities of first aid
  • Treatment of an unresponsive casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) for infants, children and adults
  • Choking (child, infant and adult protocols)
  • Allergic reactions
  • Asthma and diabetic emergencies
  • Head injuries
  • Heat and cold illness
  • Seizures
  • Bleeding and shock
  • Burns
  • Foreign objects
  • Poisons, bites and stings
  • Sprains, strains and fractures
  • Childhood conditions including croup, measles and meningitis
  • Introduction to Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs)

Assessment

Continuous assessment by the trainer.  Successful delegates will receive a certificate meeting Ofsted and EYFS recommendations, valid for three years.

Two days (Twelve contact hours).

Cost

£115 per person
This includes a training manual, training pack and resuscitation shield.
Minimum of four delegates per course.
